NEWS: Pro-Mountain Appoints BOOST to Support Post-Lockdown Demand

Feb 08, 2021

Preparing now for post-lockdown is key to BOOST’s new collaboration with outdoor adventure experts Pro-Mountain.

It comes at the right time as a Public Health England survey* recently revealed 7 in 10 adults are motivated to get healthier in 2021 due to COVID-19. Almost half of England’s population (43%) revealed they feel motivated to make changes to their life, with around 6 million adults planning to exercise more (41%).

This is good news for BOOST’s newest client Pro-Mountain, which provides expert outdoor courses and activities including hills skills, winter walking, mountain biking, rock climbing and abseiling in the Peak District, Lake District, Snowdonia, Scottish Mountains and National Parks. They also work with a small number of reputable operators to provide overseas expeditions to an expanding list of destinations including Nepal, Kyrgyzstan, Ethiopia and Ladakh.

Tough year for UK’s outdoor industry

2020 was a tough year for the outdoor industry, with businesses hit hard by the Coronavirus pandemic. An Outdoor Industries Association’s (OIA) survey** with activity providers, brand owners, retailers and outdoor professionals saw 72% of respondents report a decrease of over 50% in turnover, and 40% expecting it to take 12 months for their businesses to recover.

Strengthening brand awareness

Caroline McCann, Director of Pro-Mountain agrees and said: “2020 was a very difficult year for our industry with so many events and outdoor pursuits cancelled. However, with the public’s renewed motivation to get active and healthy in 2021, we anticipate a significant surge in demand for outdoor adventure and activities once lockdown ends. Pro-Mountain aims to be well prepared, which is why we have enlisted the help of BOOST to strengthen our brand awareness through communications and marketing. We want to be in the best position possible so we are ready to go once we can get back out into the hills and mountains with our clients. I’m keen to work with BOOST to make that happen and drive our business forward.”

New strategy and online presence

BOOST will devise a new marketing and communications strategy for Pro-Mountain, including a new online presence and digital communications to improve uptake of their range of courses and activities. BOOST will also support Pro-Mountain in promoting its services to the media and target audiences to increase consumer awareness.

Businesses need to prepare now for post-lockdown

BOOST Director Dr Jane Tonge said: “I’m very pleased to be working with Pro-Mountain which offer a fantastic outdoor experience. It is inspiring to see a business being proactive and planning how to make 2021 more successful by putting the building blocks in place now. Businesses need to be agile at this point and look for ways to gear up for post-lockdown demand as soon as it comes. Investing in communications and marketing now will pay dividends later and I look forward to supporting Pro-Mountain with our skills and expertise to help them reach their goals.”
