Perceptions matter.
Does YOUR business look closed, even if you are busy? Now more than ever, it’s easy to assume a quiet business has shut up shop.
Here’s a checklist of THREE areas
where your business ‘silence’ might signal you’re closed. The good news is you can correct these pretty quickly.
1. Website
You’re telling visitors you’ve shut up shop if your website:
- is not up to date
- has no news posted for 2021, or since 2020 or even before then!
- has no latest COVID statement (or no COVID statement at all)
- is static and unchanging
- has no news about your team or your clients
- offers no new testimonials, blogs or case studies
Staying silent on your own website sends a loud message - the lights are off and we’re not home.
2. Social Media
What do your social media channels tell people? Do you keep them up to date? You need to engage and shout about your business, for example with:
- fresh and original content
- regular activity
- retweeting and sharing others’ content
- posting new content on LinkedIn
- sharing your news, case studies or testimonials
Don’t let your business stay dormant online. Engage. It doesn't have to be on every channel. Choose one or two where you have followers and talk to them.
3. Corporate Messaging
Are you taking the lead? What corporate messages do you send out? Are you still in the fight? Or has it all gone quiet? If people don’t hear your voice, see your actions, hear your plans, then they will look elsewhere for leadership. Maybe turning to your competitors instead. So how do you step up your corporate messaging to clients, customers and partners?
- send personal emails explaining how your business is coping right now
- regularly issue your latest COVID updates saying how it will affect them
- send out a monthly newsletter, bulletin or emailer with the latest news about your business, your team, your progress and the challenges you’ve overcome
Don’t let silence put your business at risk.
